OrbiMed invests across the spectrum of health sciences companies on a worldwide basis. Investments are made in one of three distinct strategies: mutual funds, hedge funds and private equity funds. OrbiMed's investment team has been actively investing in public equity since 1989 and private equity since 1993.

Hedge Funds

OrbiMed's hedge fund strategy was initiated in 1993 to invest both long and short in the health sciences sector. We employ a global outlook, which provides a broad opportunity set and reduced volatility through diversification. Long positions seek to focus on small and mid-capitalization companies with future "blockbuster" product potential.

Mutual Funds

OrbiMed's mutual fund business was launched in 1989 to invest on a worldwide basis in health sciences companies. Funds under management include the Eaton Vance Worldwide Health Sciences Fund and the Finsbury Worldwide Pharmaceutical Trust.

Private Equity Funds

OrbiMed has been an active investor in private equity since 1993. Our private equity strategy is focused on drug discovery, drug development and medical device companies. Our team is active at all stages of company development, with a particular emphasis on mid- and later-stage private companies. OrbiMed is generally the lead investor in its portfolio companies and often takes an active role in helping management through board participation.
